Pet Tips

  • During the hot summer months, it’s up to you to keep your pets safe and healthy.
  • If you have dogs and a pool, teach your dogs where the steps are in case they fall in. Dogs can swim but they get tired and if they can’t find their way out, they will drown.
  • Don’t take your pets for walks on asphalt in the middle of the scorching day! It’s HOT and they don’t have shoes.
  • Pets can get sunburned too! If they will be out in the sun, make sure to use sunscreen that is labeled as safe to use on animals.
  • Make sure pets keep a safe distance from fireworks so they don’t get burned. Also, most pets are fearful of loud noises so it’s best to keep pets at home during 4th of July celebrations.
  • Provide plenty of fresh water.
  • Never leave your pet in a parked car! Vehicles heat up fast in the sun and animals can get overheated and die in a very short period of time.
  • Dog hair helps to keep them from overheating and getting sunburned. Giving them a summer cut is okay but never shave them.
  • Never give your pet alcohol and many foods that are okay for people are poisonous to pets such as grapes, raisins, strawberries, chocolate and more.
